Six Easy Steps to Start a Book Club

  1. Gather six or eight names of friends that are interested in meeting to discuss fun and exciting books.
  2. Pick a date and time. This should be the same day of the week for every meeting. Example: the third Tuesday or the second Thursday of each month. Not everyone will be able to make every month, but consistency is the key to a successful book club.
  3. Ask six or eight friends to come to the “book choice award night” party. Everyone has to bring three titles of a book that they recommend for a monthly book selection. Even better, if they have the books, have them bring them so the group can look them over. I strong advise no one recommend anything that they have not read.

  1. For this organizational party you can have everyone bring one snack or beverage to share. After this meeting, I recommend clubs not serve snacks. Less work, more fun should be the motto. Just share lively book discussions, keep the K.I.S.S. approach.  No work for anyone but a night of escape & fun for all.
  2. Pick the first 5 or 6 months of book titles.      This will give a sense of commitment to the club and will get everyone into the habit of looking forward to the meeting every month.

  1. Pick a facilitator. Someone to start a discussion about your month’s book and keep the group on track. This is easy, for help see “suggested questions for discussion” provided in this book club package.

After these easy steps, then all that is left to look forward to is once a month night out for interesting, stimulating discussions of books that will open the world to you.
